Harrods: Pradasphere
For the month of May, Harrods Knightsbridge in London will celebrate iconic luxury brand Prada.
The month-long celebration includes 40 window displays, a pop-up store, multiple screen displays, an elegant Marchesi café, and Pradasphere – an exhibition that traces the company’s interests, from fashion and accessories to art, architecture, cinema, sport and beyond.
Harrods’ windows represent Prada’s multifaceted identity and serve as an index of classic store elements. It highlights Prada’s contributions to popular culture, art, architecture, and film. Once inside the Harrods space, the 130m2 Prada pop-up can be experience on the ground floor of the building. Designed in classic Prada style, the shop features an iconic black-and-white-chequered marble floor, slim polished-steel and crystal display shelves.
The Marchesi café is situated alongside the Pradasphere exhibition and brings the heritage of legendary Milanese patisserie to London. The wallpaper covering the bar counter features exact replicas of the details and decorations found at the original Pasticceria Marchesi , which was founded in Milan in 1824. Bar mirrors display images of its early 20th-century splendour. The Prada Group holds a significant stake in the Pasticceria Marchesi.
The exhibition Pradasphere is a collection of archival objects arranged to reveal what the brand describes as Prada’s obsessions. Capturing the essence of these elements central to Prada — beauty, taste, embellishment, gender, vanity, and power — Pradasphere explores their role through the diverse channels of fashion and accessories to art, architecture, film, and culture.
Pradasphere is on display at Harrods Knightsbridge in London, England until Thursday 29 May 2014.
