Disseny Hub Barcelona
As we immerse ourselves in the experience that is OFFF’’s 14th edition, we provide a look into the history and structure of its home: the Disseny Hub Barcelona.
Built to form a centre point for Barcelona’s design world, a city with a long design history, the Disseny Hub holds a selection of museums and creative spaces. The building brings a contemporary voice to the city of Barcelona, with the museums placing a particular emphasis on the design object. Currently used for temporary exhibitions and events, the space will open completely by the end of 2014.
Barcelona-based architecture firm MBM Arquitectes designed the Disseny Hub. The angular building consists of seven storeys, with a section of the building partially underground, responding to the natural slope of the surrounding landscape. The exterior of the building utilises only two materials, metal plates and glass. The exterior materials compliment the angles of the building and result in an industrial style space.
It is the perfect location for the OFFF festival, with the innovative and high-end design of the building complimenting the philosophy of the festival’s events and speakers. This OFFF edition runs until Saturday 17 May. fluoro is on ground in Barcelona and will continue to bring you the latest from the event.
