Franco Fasoli – JAZ: Vinculo
Franco Fasoli’s (JAZ) latest exhibition deals with connections, contradictions and contrasts as the Spanish title Vínculo (Bond) would suggest.
JAZ’s career started as a graffiti writer in the streets of the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires in the mid 1990’s and has evolved from a type-based practice to a more complex and figurative style. Inspired by his work in scenography, JAZ started experimenting with several unusual materials such as asphalt paint, petrol, tar and glue which allowed him to create his very own technique for mural painting. The result is a watercolour-like luminescent but transparent effect.
Vínculo is full of tension that is not only shown through the paintings but also through the gallery space and interactation with the art. The ambiguity that serves the characters created by JAZ’s work reflects issues of South American society, such as social confrontations. Simultaneously, the show explores human experiences, such as identity confrontations, fears and the permanent internal combat that is inevitably connected to them. JAZ constructs a double-faced reality that he demonstrates through his creatures, which often appear mirrored or as disguised human fighters.
The colour palette chosen by JAZ creates a dark counterpart to his recently exposed work that appeared in a much brighter colour range. The paintings, which are specifically made for the space, will be arranged in the gallery to underline the artist’s vision of ambiguity and create a tension of confrontation between the upper and lower floor.
Vínculo is on display at until 26 July 2014 at BC gallery in Berlin, Germany.
