Cartier Time Art – Mechanic of Passion
Travelling exhibition, Cartier Time Art – Mechanic of Passion unites the largest number of Cartier timepieces ever displayed in public.
The exhibition is directed by Japanese artist and designer Tokujin Yoshioka and showcases 151 historical pieces from the Cartier Collection. Also on display are 16 Métiers d’art watches from the Cartier d’Art Collection, 20 Manufacture Movements and 15 watches from the Cartier Fine Watchmaking Collection.
In Cartier Time Art, Yoshioka intends to highlight Cartier’s unique beauty by merging two essential components – the first, Cartier’s historical tradition, and the second, their avant-garde future ideas. What stands out in the exhibition’s journey is the daring spirit of Cartier’s craftsman and designers. This spirit is something that Yoshioka has imbued within the exhibition scenography.
One key highlight is an installation titled The Gate, which is composed of 150,000 fibres. The installation alters the whole room as a lens and eludes an image that transcends dimensions. In the illusional atmosphere filled with light, Cartier’s concept watch ID One, ID Two, and the lens made of transparent acrylic take people to the gate of the future.

Cartier Time Art – Mechanic of Passion is a travelling exhibition that had been previously held at Bellerive Museum in Switzerland and at the Art Science Museum in Singapore. The exhibition is currently on display at China’s largest contemporary art museum, the Power Station of Art in Shanghai until Sunday 12 October 2014.
