100% Design: Experiencing Space
As 100% Design returns to London for its 20th edition, we look to how the festival’s key structures explore the possibilities of space.
Czech glass manufacturer Lasvit, in conjunction with Daniel Libeskind, has designed a dramatic entrance to the 100% Design space. The contemporary chandelier is comprised of clear glass cells that cluster together to form a series of puzzle-like triangular patterns. In the same manner as stalactites and crystals the glass forms capture light, refracting it into exquisite prisms.
From the entrance visitors are lead through a tunnel – a design element that has become synonymous with 100% Design. Designed by creative consultancy Studio Design UK, the tunnel features 15 arches and its mirrored surfaces are intended as a visual representation of Design Kaleidoscope, the overall theme of the event.
Once within the festival visitors are immersed in spatial design, with architecture used to define their visit. The four key industry hubs of 100% Design (Workplace, Kitchens & Bathrooms, Eco Design & Build and Interiors) have their own sector-specific features. With structures from key architectural firms including NBBJ, vPPR Architects, Thomas.Matthews and multidisciplinary studio Mette the results utilise materials that range from glass to foam. 100% Design takes place from Wednesday 17 – Saturday 20 September 2014 at Earls Court, London. Stay tuned to fluoro for further coverage from the event.
