Cathleen Naundorf: Polaroids
Haute Couture photographer Cathleen Naundorf utilises photography to capture the art within fashion.
The presentation of fashion on the catwalk can often be ephemeral, but Naundorf gives the garments a lasting sense of life. The photographer has captured garments from the likes of Chanel, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix, Elie Saab, Philip Treacy and Valentino.
Naundorf’s images are grand, with the surroundings as elegantly excessive as the garments themselves. Shot in colour and black and white, her style remains true in both colour schemes. Choosing to work with a large format camera with vintage Polaroid film, Naundorf gives the photographs an aged and textured appearance by hand-pressing them before they set.
Over six years of work with some of the world’s most celebrated fashion designers, is brought together in an exhibition of the photographer’s work at Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles. The images will remain on display until Saturday 11 October 2014. The series includes photographs from her 2012 title The Polaroids of Cathleen Naundorf, which was released through Prestel.
