Fashion Icons

Contemporary fashion design since 1947 and the Parisian style will be the focus of a major international exhibition at The Art Gallery of South Australia titled Fashion Icons: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Musee Des Arts Decoratifs, Paris.

With international renowned curator Pamela Golbin and acclaimed French designer Christian Biecher at the helm of the exhibit, the exhibition will bring numerous pieces to the South Australian capital city. Over 90 emblematic haute couture garments created by the world’s leading fashion designers have been drawn from the Musee des Arts Decoratif. Featured designers include Jacques Estérel, Yves Saint Laurent, Claude Montana, Kenzo JAP, Christian Lacroix, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, Hussein Chalayan, Raf Simons and Issey Miyake. The work, seeks to illustrate the style of each of the mythical couturiers behind a long history of luxury and sumptuousness.

From the lavish splendour of the 1950s to the unbridled excess of the 1980s, the exhibit features work from each decade of the unique Parisian style within the context of contemporary fashion, that has evolved since 1947 when the couturier Christian Dior relaunched haute couture with his New Look.

The exhibition will be open to the public until Sunday 15 February 2015.
