Jeff Koons: Hulk Elvis
The conceptual constructs of the new, the banal and the sublime, employed by Jeff Koons in his artwork, will be featured at an exhibition for his series titled the Hulk Elvis at the Gagosian Gallery in Hong Kong.
Koon’s series, taking on his philosophy of presenting artwork that touches at the core of the human psyche, features the well-known comic book hero the Hulk. He features in a series of pieces that shows the animalistic character with a wheelbarrow filled with live flowers, inflatable animal toys and other normal everyday items.
From the precision-machined bronze sculptures, to the large-scale paintings of the Hulk, Koons looks to dazzle viewers with energy and exactitude, but also mystify them with complex permutations and combinations of figurative and abstract elements.
Koon’s Hulk Elvis series, even makes keys, pipes and a pedalboard jut off the character’s torso, in a classic style from the artist, where he looks to depict all levels of emotion though confounding combinations of abstraction, figuration and sumptuous effect.
This series is just a touch of what the Pennsylvania born artist has been doing throughout his career, which has seen his career rise through his reimagining of banal objects, and producing them into works of art.
The exhibition will run from Thursday 6 November – Saturday 20 December 2014 at the Gagosian Gallery in Hong Kong.
