Replacing Ads with Art
Billboards around New York City are getting an artistic facelift, bringing to life the colour and ethos of one of the world’s most iconic cities.
The project dubbed, Replacing Ads with Art, is looking to make the city streets of New York become the gallery and walls for this urban museum in November. As a part of the project, The Street Museum of Art (SMoA) will be putting their unique and personal perspective of what is New York through a three-part billboard series from three artists based in the city.
GOOD Cities Project commissioned SMoA for the work, which will focus on found works of local street artists Elle, Rubin and Skewville.
The goal of the billboard takeover and gallery, is to inspire the public to take an active role in the GOOD Cities Project and ‘Rediscover Our City’ through the lens of the street artists who develop the art pieces across the sidewalks and alleyways of New York.
Along with the goal of rediscovery, SMoA is also pushing to bring attention to the talent found working around and outside the concrete jungle.
