Swatch: Faces & Traces Art Exhibition
Along the corner of Nanjing Road, among Shanghai’s bustling skyscrapers and city lights, The Swatch Art Peace Hotel is celebrating its dedication to artistic creation with an exhibition called Faces and Traces.
The exhibition—sponsored by Swatch—is the first-ever exhibition of “traces”, which is art made by the 139 current and former artists-in-residence, who’ve been living in The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, as a sort of communal artistic ecosystem in the unique Chinese city.
For over 30 years, Swatch has been working closely with artists and decided to create the hotel as a focal point of the contemporary arts in China. In the three years since the restoration of the old 1908 Palace Hotel, Swatch has been able to successfully pull artists from the “traces” exhibit from more than 30 countries.
“There is creativity in everything and everywhere you look. It’s open to everybody. That’s the message of Swatch, the substance of the place, and this philosophy vibrates through every part of the hotel,” said Nick Hayek of Swatch Group.
In conjunction with the event, Swatch will also be releasing a specially designed wristwatch called Black & White The Swatch Art Peace Hotel. The design of the watch looks to encapsulate the philosophy of the hotel by featuring the skyline profile of the building on the dial, the Shanghai skyline on the strap and golden hands. The watch will be sold exclusively at the Swatch Boutique inside the hotel until Wednesday January 7 2015. On Thursday 8 January 2015 the watch will be available in Swatch stores, worldwide.
The exhibition will remain open until the end of January 2015.
