Soul Jazz Records: An Encyclopaedic Guide to the Art of Disco
With the turn of the first two pages all you see written across the 360-page deluxe hardback title from Soul Jazz Records, is the word DISCO with bright colours and pictures. You immediately know it’s something special.
The title, Disco-An Encyclopaedic Guide to the Cover of Art Disco, is a work of pure art and love from the British record label. It features over 2,000 album cover designs as well as 700 12” sleeves and includes sections on roller disco, disco instruction albums and more.
With over 25 chapters, the title chronicles the beauty of the album art coming from Motown labels, to Casablanca and the Roller Disco label. It also features interviews and introductions for each section by the likes of Tom Moulton, Marvin Schlachter to name a few.
Soul Jazz Records released the title to coincide with a new double-sided vinyl album that blurs the lines of disco, modern soul and boogie from Disco’s halcyon and features many exclusive and hard to find records from the era.
