Girard-Perregaux: Baselworld 2015 Watch Preview
Girard-Perregaux, a historic specialist in precision watchmaking, has released a preview for Baselworld 2015 with a white gold version of its Tri-Axial Tourbillon.
The watch is designed with a special mechanism to increase time precision by eliminating the negative effect of gravity on the regulating organ of the watch. The Tourbillon has since its introduction, more than two hundred years ago, been under continuous evolution in the mission to improve efficiency. The recent result is an innovative masterpiece combining modern elements of excellent quality and decades of heritage reflected in each component.
The complex architecture of the 13.78mm diameter Tourbillon cage is made of 140 components, each carefully decorated and finished by hand, with multi-dimensional rotations and a minimal weight of 1.24g. The interior carriage, which holds the balance wheel, is shaped like a lyre in typical Girard-Perregaux tradition and rotates once every minute. It is built into a separate structure that rotates around another axis every 30 seconds. Finally, a third structure allows the entire assembly to rotate on a third axis every 2 minutes, all in perfect balance.
The bridge side contains a black-coloured plate with the Girard-Perregaux symbol and iconic arrow-shaped bridges in pink gold. The brand logo area carries the logo engraved with prink gold and the individual watch number. It takes about 160 hours to assemble the 317 pieces of the movement, all fitted into a 48mm diameter case in white gold. With a more revealing dial design compared to last year’s model the watch allows for different views of the fascinating movements.
The watch is presented in a flawless finish of mirror-polished surfaces and familiar Girard-Perregaux features such as a bevelled bezel, curved middle and streamlined horns. The straps are black, full-grain, hand-stitched alligator with a folding buckle in white gold.
The white gold Girard-Perregaux Tri-Axial Tourbillon is offered as a limited edition of 10 pieces.
