Art Basel: Hong Kong 2015
The latest addition to the Art Basel shows, Art Basel Hong Kong, is soon to open.
Functioning as a gateway between the East and West, the show will provide a platform for galleries from around the world to showcase the way they work with artists. At the same time, with half of the participating galleries coming from Asia and Asia-pacific, Art Basel Hong Kong provides a portal for the world to the region’s artists.
Art Basel covers works from more than 3,000 emerging as well as well-established artists from the last 12 decades of art history displayed across six sectors: galleries, insights, discoveries, encounters, magazines and film. Apart from the extensive collection for artwork, the show also functions as a site for intellectual discovery by facilitating discussions, talks, presentations as well as cross-cultural exchange.
Our picks for Art Basel Hong Kong 2015 span across art, film, and conversations.
Art Basel: The Premier International Art Show
Needless to say, among the most essential events to take place at Art Basel Hong Kong is the International Art Show which will display 233 leading galleries from 37 countries with a variety in works from those of great artistic masterminds to those of today’s fresh emerging talents.
Art Basel: Film
Among the long line of films to be displayed at Art Basel Hong Kong 2015 is Reperform, Reconstruct, Represent which conveys stories in images and data, showing the art of reproduction and re-performance by repeating visual elements of a story while the story itself is reconstructed. Another film on display is Animated Reality, which illustrates the fine boundary between the world of reality and that of fantasy and how it shapes and reorients people’s perception on an ongoing basis.
Art Basel: Conversations
Chinese artist Cao Fei will be opening this year’s Conversations series in his discussion with Hans Ulrich Obrist, co-director of Serpentine Gallery in London. Cao Fei’s work in multi-media practice explores the contemporary setting in urban China, which has taken form in the virtual RMB City developed by the artist in Second Life. Cao Fei developed RMB City as a Chinese 21st century city that functions as an open platform for testing the boundaries between the virtual and the real.
Art Basel Hong Kong will take place from Sunday 15– Tuesday 17 March 2015.
