Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One Release Tuxedo
Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and producer Mayer Hawthorne and Grammy nominated hip-hop record producer Jake One have joined forces to release a self-titled debut album named Tuxedo.
The duo released their album through Stones Throw Records announcing the cover art of the album by Jean Andre, the track listing as well as a sneak peek into the tunes of the funk record with the video for the track Do It.
Tuxedo is Mayer Hawthorne (Aquarius) and Jake One (Taurus). The duo is known as descendants of the lineage of funk that includes groups such as Chic, Shalamar and Plush & Zapp. The collaboration started in 2006 with an exchange of mix tapes. Following a long-standing relationship Tuxedo emerged last year with three tracks of smooth, synth-heavy disco funk with no information about the group except a message announcing Tuxedo’s surfacing “Tuxedo is here! Stay classy!”. In between personal projects the three tracks since became 12 forming a full album mixed by original disco don dada John Morales.
The album’s release on Stones Throw Records marks Hawthorne’s return to the label since the release of his debut A Strange Arrangement in 2009.
Tuxedo is available in vinyl, cassette tape, CD and online. The duo is currently spreading their tunes on a tour with a concert today in Austin, Texas, USA.
