Louis Vuitton: Tribute to Christopher Nemeth
Louis Vuitton pays tribute to English artist and fashion designer Christopher Nemeth with a special capsule collection.
The capsule collection forms part of Louis Vuitton’s current AW15 collection, which is heavily inspired by 1980’s London, a period with intense creativity and rebellious fashion. A highly remarkable designer of this period was Christopher Nemeth.
With a background in arts, Nemeth turned toward creating clothing, which brought him into the world of fashion. Self-taught in pattern cutting Nemeth would combine canvas with discarded post sacks to reconfigure old suiting. This revolutionary practice became his signature deconstructed style.
Creativity and craft were at the core of Nemeth’s passion and shone through in his creations together with his impeccable attention to detail particularly in his use of the recurrent motif the woven rope. This motif formed a key inspiration for the designer and exists in multiple volumes in his creative archives.
Louis Vuitton’s Director of Menswear Kim Jones wanted to pay tribute to the late designer with the special capsule collection, featuring Nemeth’s graphic works and elements of the woven rope. With the help of Nemeth immediate and extended family Vuitton created a collection featuring full range clothing, bags, scarves, ties, sneakers, watches and other accessories.
The collection will be available from Monday 22 June at Colette, Louis Vuitton flagship stores and at a men’s pop-up store made in collaboration with Colette.
