POW! WOW! Long Beach 2015
POW! WOW! has arrived at the Californian city of Long Beach.
Having grown into a global network of artists, POW! WOW! organises gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music, mural projects, concerts, and live art installations across the globe. The central event, POW! WOW! Hawaii takes place in February, annually, in the Kaka’ako district of Honolulu. The event brings over a hundred international and local artists together to create murals and other forms of art.
POW! WOW! is expanding to cities and countries such as Taiwan, Austin, Israel, Singapore, Jamaica, Washington D.C., Guam, New Zealand, Germany and many more.
Long Beach, California is POW! WOW!’s newest endeavour which sees a range of events bring the city to life, including:
Jeff Staple 1-2-1 with Fafi. Wednesday 24 June 7.30-9pm (PST).
This event will give attendees an in-depth insight into world of Fafi through Jeff Staple’s 1-2-1 talks.
“The Deepest Depths of the Burrow” Screening and Talk. Thursday 25 June 7.30-10pm (PST).
This sold out event, will document the adventures of street artist Nychos as he traverses the world, painting every corner of it. Over the last two years Nychos, and other members of the RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT were accompanied by filmmaker Christian Fischer who recorded their journey. A full-length film has been created titled “The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow”. The documentary focuses on art, lifestyle and subculture.
Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape Exhibition. Commencing on Friday 26 June 7-10pm (PST).
In collaboration with Thinkspace and POW! WOW! 20 international artists will transform both floors of the The Long Beach Museum of Art by way of murals, installations and more. The roster includes artists James Jean, Aaron de la Cruz, Fafi, Cryptik, Hueman, Jeff Soto, Low Bro, Nychos, Madsteez, Bumblebee and Tristan Eaton.
Murals
A number of locations around Long Beach have been secured to allow globally renowned artists to add their mark to the city of Long Beach through the creation of murals. See mural map for locations.
We spoke to Oakland-based graffiti artist and painter, Hueman, who is one of the dynamic artists who is taking part in the event. Read our interview with Hueman here. Her mural, in collaboration with Madsteez, can be found at J.W. Goodson’s Salon – 2205 E. Broadway.
