Friday Nights at NGV

Friday Nights returns to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), with a line up of leading international and Australian musicians.

The Friday Nights at NGV series forms part of the Masterpieces from the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great, and will offer visitors after-hours access to the exhibition as well as live performances, DJs and pop-up talks. The Melbourne Winter Masterpiece exhibition displays pieces from the personal collection of Catherine the Great, housed in the Hermitage Museum. More than 500 works will be on display including extraordinary works by Rembrandt, Velasquez, Rubens and Titian.

Spanning six weeks, Friday Nights at NGV will showcase a variety of music ranging from indie and pop to jazz, folk and rock.

Opening the series on Friday 2 October 2015 is the Paul Grabowsky Trio, who will bring to the extraordinary contemporary jazz sound, which they have become appreciated for.

Following up on the music series on Friday 9 October 2015 is Finnish artist Jaako Eino Kalevi, who left behind tram driving in Helsinki to pursue the dream of producing the kind of lush dream-pop.

On Friday 16 October 2015, Glenn Richards, frontman of the award-winning band Augie March will take to the stage, performing a solo set that will clarify to visitors his earned reputation as a pre-eminent Australian songwriter.

Friday 23 October will see Gareth Liddiard, who recently celebrated 10 years with The Drones, perform solo following his ARIA award-winning album Strange Tourist. His performance will add some captivating alternative rock into the Friday Nights at NGV mix.

Rounding off the line of artists, is folk singer Laura Jean who will perform on Friday 30 October. Since her debut album Our Swan Song, Jean has been heralded as a powerful voice in the Australian music scene, winning acclaim for her personal folk inspired style.

Concluding the music series on Friday 6 November 2015, are ARIA award-winning band Underground Lovers. They will present a multi-sensory live show, with the strong indie rock-electro sound which they have become favoured for across Australia.

Friday Nights at NGV will run from Friday 2 October – Friday 6 November 2015 at NGV International in Melbourne, Australia. Tickets are available for purchase here.
